We were so happy to learn last week that we finished first in the race for our new apartment! Don't know why we had success this time and not before, perhaps it is good karma?
On the way to school to pick up Tara a couple of weeks ago, an individual from the mideast approached me to tell me that he was impressed with my aura. He indicated that good fortune would certainly follow, that I would live a long life and was blessed to be married to the one true love of my life. Of course I gave him 5ch franks in exchange for a lucky pebble.
Now I am not saying this had anything to do with our luck changing, but I am keeping the pebble ........
This past weekend we spent looking for furniture and other things for the new place. We decided we would go contempory in our furnishings. One, because the apartment has that flavor, and two, because it is practically all that is sold here. Beds consist of a frame and matress, with no box springs. As a consequence they reach only a foot or so from the floor. They do not use a top sheet, just a fitted bottom with a compforter. This makes life a lot simpler.
We will also need a few armours as there are no closets in Switzerland. There are also very few rooms that have permanent ligh fixtures, so lamps are on the shopping list as well.
Katie comes for a visit next week. She took off to help us while I go to Scotland and Teri goes to Munich the day I return. Tara is off the following week for "ski week" which we understand is the week when all students across Switzerland head for the slopes. We'll have to wait for next year to participate, given all the things we need to get done.
Teri, Tara and Katie will then all head back to the US for a visit and to bring the dogs (Coco and Duchess) back to Switzerland. We miss them. I must stay as this is only the second week I will have had in my new job.
They will also be loading up for their return with the goodies that we took for granted in the states. Benadryl, Tylenol, Pantyhose, DVD's under $50, paperbacks under $18, etc. While much of this stuff has an Swiss or European equivalent, they sell nothing in bulk, and you must get a pharmacist to advise you to buy what we'd consider over the counter things like anti bacterial cream.
Teri starred in a Swiss Re intranet production of an interview with the new Risk Manager for her company. She let Tara and me watch it. She was really good! She may have missed her calling.
I found out today that I may be heading for South Africa towards the end of February. I will be going to look at the 'motor" business they write there. Seems they are having problems, among which are the kidnappings and murder of the drivers.
I am definitely taking my pebble.

What an interesting time you all are having! I love the pebble in the story! I would hold on to it, you just never know! I usually dread superstitions too. The pics look great, and I'm so happy you will finally have a place to call home. A simple place- With expensive taste I'm sure. I can't believe their media is so expensive there. Can they even fly with Tylenol and such though? Especially things in liquid form? They might have to seek the local recommendation for the OTCs. So happy for you all though!!!
Congrats on finding a place. We can't wait to come visit you. And we can't wait to see Mom and Tara in a couple weeks. We still have a couple DVDs borrowed that we'll get back to you by then in case you want to take them over. Leslie has lots of paperbacks you can borrow too - so come shop at our place (I say Les because she reads the same kind of crap Mom reads).
Glad you guys found a place! Good luck in South Africa, sounds like a trip to remember.
You know, I bet mom could fit Bebe in her purse along with Coco - no one would ever need to know that there are two dogs there instead of one! The more the merrier, right?
